Breed Appreciation Day 2023
Our 2023 Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) 2023 was hosted at Ranby Village Hall. The club welcomed breed speaker Miss Sheila Thomson to the stage, she walked us through a well structured presentation where our candidates were given the opportunity to take notes and ask questions.
Following the Breed Talk, the candidates were introduced to Mr Ian Blackshaw who explained how you should assess a Tibetan Spaniel, he described in great detail how to ‘go over’ the dog whilst judging. Again the candidates were welcomed to ask questions throughout.
Upon completion of their initial learning the candidates were put through their paces with the multiple choice examination , our Breed Education Coordination (BEC) Tina Poyser presented the candidates with their exam papers, they were then marked accordingly and those who passed were awarded with their certificates.
Shortly after a lunch break was the turn of the candidates to be the judges. Our panel of judges were given 5 dogs to rank as they would in a show situation. The candidates then went over all 5 dogs and moved on to write their own critiques. It is important to say that there are technically no right or wrong answers during this stage, however, the candidates must be able to state valid reasons for their rankings.
Overall the day was a huge success with many learning points for both the candidates and the club, we look forward to the next BAD day and potentially welcoming our candidates into the judges education programme
